About twenty-five miles north of St. George on Hwy 18 is
where Central, Utah is located . You will pass through Central on your way to
Pine Valley. Central was named because the place was a central located
between Enterprise, Gunlock, Veyo, and Pine Valley.
In the late 1800s an attempt was made to bring water from Pine Valley to the flat that is
now Central but was abandoned because of the cost of materials. About twenty years later
Henry Holt felt he could complete the ditch by running
it through a tunnel instead of building a flume.
This quaint town is still an agriculture and
ranching area with
most of the residents living in the cedar and pinion pine tree covered
hills to the north.
Elevation is about 5000 ft.
Rock hounding:
Agate and Jasper can be found in this area.
